Lara Desrosiers-OT

History
I have practiced in community mental health settings since 2009 and have loved this work. However, my recent journey to parenthood involved experiencing the whole life impact of pelvic organ prolapse. Through my own experiences and talking to other mothers, I quickly became aware of a need in our community for greater awareness of pelvic health issues, access to the preventative and rehabilitative strategies available, more robust maternal wellness services overall, and mental health services for individuals living with pain or other chronic conditions.
education
At McMaster University, I completed my BSc in Kinesiology in 2007 and my MSc in Occupational Therapy in 2009. Recent continuing education includes Core Confidence Certification with Bellies Inc. (preventing/addressing core and pelvic floor dysfunction), The Female Athlete: Bullet Proof your Core and Pelvic Floor, An Integrative Approach to Perinatal Health, Trauma-Informed Support Skills, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
technique
As an OT, it is my job to help you to maximize function, work towards your goals and find a life balance that works for you. I value building self-compassion, self-efficacy, and a sense of empowerment in my clients. I also have a special interest in supporting pregnant and postpartum women through a complex journey that can impact whole person and whole family health.
services
The mission of my practice is to support anyone living with chronic pain, chronic illness, or pelvic health/core issues to navigate their experience in way that promotes whole person wellness. Your support plan could include approaches such as breath work, building body awareness, ergonomics, functional movement and/or exercise  programming, symptom management, environmental adaptation, and psychotherapy. Ultimately, your goals and preferences will drive our work together.
